With the way online communication is quickly becoming the first form of communication which destroys the face to face interaction we loose apart of the communication language. With online communication continuing to grow, the amount of arguments do to. With the way online arguments continue to grow it is important to grow the way you communicate and argue online. 

Branches of the Toulmin Method

Claim: The argument presented by the author or presenter

Data: Evidence used to support the claim

Warrant: Unstated assumptions

Backing: Additional specific examples that support the warrant 

Qualifier: Clarifies the claim in order to diminish the possibilities that could weaken the claim

Rebuttal: The limitations of the argument 

This structure allows for an idea of how to argue online. It allows for you to express your ideas and opinions in a way that is concrete and includes all of the information you need. You can use this method pretty effectively but it can be limited by the information you use, if the sources are ineffective or inaccurate then it discredits the entire argument. Social media is also large and daunting, this creates a difficult place to navigate. Critical thinking is a essential part of this method, it is the only way to make na argument your own, to take information and interpret it.
